Terms of Enrollment
These terms are the agreement between your family and Southern Islamic Institute, operated by Ameen Systems, for one school year. They set out what we promise your child, what we ask of you, and what happens if either of us cannot keep our side.
Draft for attorney review; effective when enrollment opens.
The agreement
You enroll each child for one school year at a time, in one program and grade. Nothing renews automatically: each school year is a new enrollment that you choose. These terms work together with our Tuition Billing, Refunds and Withdrawal, Safeguarding and Code of Conduct, and Records and Transcripts policies, and our Privacy Policy.
Before school begins
- The go or no-go promise. By March 15, 2027, we tell every founding family whether their child's grade will open. A grade band opens only with enough students to teach it well (our proposed minimum is 8). If your child's grade will not open, you owe nothing, and you choose whether we keep or delete your application.
- No money before then. We take no payment until your child's grade is confirmed and our readiness checklist for tuition is complete, including background checks for every adult with access to children and a tested video classroom.
- Enrollment steps. You complete enrollment in the Family Portal: the address where your child attends class and your county's emergency dispatch number, guardians and their authority, emergency contact, learning support, consents, and your payment plan. Our Principal confirms each child is ready to start.
What we promise each week
For the grade band your child is enrolled in, we promise the live teaching minutes in the table below each full school week, as confirmed by our founding faculty before enrollment opens. Holidays, Eid, and the published Ramadan schedule are excepted.
| Each week | Grades 1 and 2 | Grades 3 to 5 | Grades 6 to 8 | Islamic Studies Program |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Live classes, in small groups | 300 minutes (5 hours) Daily reading and math groups | 450 minutes (7.5 hours) | 600 minutes (10 hours) | 90 minutes (1.5 hours) Two evenings, or the weekend |
| Qur'an, live | 100 minutes (1 hour 40 minutes) | 150 minutes (2.5 hours) | 150 minutes (2.5 hours) | 60 minutes (1 hour) |
| Self-paced lessons, on and off the screen | 600 minutes (10 hours) | 750 minutes (12.5 hours) | 900 minutes (15 hours) | 60 minutes (1 hour) |
| Of those, work away from the screen | 300 minutes (5 hours) | 350 minutes (5 hours 50 minutes) | 350 minutes (5 hours 50 minutes) | 30 minutes |
| Islamic studies (counted within the above) | 90 minutes (1.5 hours) | 135 minutes (2 hours 15 minutes) | 180 minutes (3 hours) | 90 minutes (1.5 hours) |
| Advisor | A weekly group check-in | Weekly | Weekly | Monthly |
| Parent or learning-coach time | About 3 hours a day | About 2 hours a day | About 1 hour a day | As needed |
| On-screen time, as planned | About 2 hours 20 minutes a school day | About 3 hours 20 minutes a school day | About 4 hours 20 minutes a school day | About 1 hour 30 minutes a class day |
| Screen-time ceiling (on-screen minutes only) | At most 2 hours 30 minutes on screen a school day | At most 3 hours 30 minutes on screen a school day | At most 4 hours 30 minutes on screen a school day | At most 1 hour 30 minutes on screen a class day |
These numbers are proposed and will be confirmed by our founding faculty. The screen-time ceiling counts on-screen minutes only: live classes, live Qur'an, and the self-paced lessons done on a screen. Work away from the screen (reading, handwriting, math on paper, and Qur'an practice from a printed mushaf) is part of the self-paced minutes, counts toward the school day when a parent confirms it, and is not screen time.
- Live classes have no more than 15 students. Qur'an groups are smaller: no more than 10 for Qaida, 8 for reading, 8 for Juz 'Amma, and 6 for hifz.
- Live classes are scheduled so they do not fall in the first 30 minutes after Dhuhr or Asr begins, or across Maghrib, for any family in the class, and not around Jumu'ah on Fridays. Prayer times come from the prayer location your family sets (until you set it, prayer times anywhere in your state or, abroad, your time zone are avoided). Asr is counted from the standard time for every family, and from the later Hanafi time as well for each family who records it. If a class comes to fall in your family's prayer time, you, the teacher, and the Principal are told and the class is moved; missing a class for prayer is always an excused absence.
- Teachers return feedback on submitted work within 3 school days.
- Staff reply to your messages within one school day.
- If your child misses a live class, you are told the same day.
Your Family Portal shows your child's attendance in minutes, so you can see what was delivered.
Teachers and advisors
- Every course has a named teacher of record.
- Every student has a named advisor, with no more than 25 students. Full-time students have a weekly check-in (a small group check-in in grades 1 and 2); Islamic Studies Program students have a monthly one.
- Every adult with access to your child holds a current clearance: a fingerprint-based background check, registry checks, references, a signed code of conduct, and yearly training.
- Our counselor is an academic and college counselor. SII does not provide therapy or mental-health treatment.
What we ask of families
- A learning coach. In the Full-Time Online School, a parent or another adult you name works alongside your child every school day, for the hours shown for your child's grade band on A Week at SII.
- Equipment and a quiet place. A computer, headset, steady internet, a quiet place in a shared room, and a printed qaida or mushaf. See What You Need.
- Accurate information. Keep your address, emergency dispatch number, and guardian details current. Tell us each term whether your child attends class from that address, and when you are traveling.
- Your state's filings. Some states ask families to file a notice or keep records when their child attends a private school. Your state's row in our state table tells you what we know of those duties; filing them is your responsibility.
- Confirming offline work honestly. Offline work counts toward the school day only when you confirm it truthfully.
- Payment. Pay each invoice on your chosen plan, or talk to us if you cannot.
Consent and records
For a child under 13, we need a parent's verifiable consent before your child's account opens, usually given in a live video conversation with our staff. You may withdraw consent at any time; your child's account is then suspended the same day. Separate, optional consents cover recitation recordings and showing your child's schoolwork, with their first name, in class showcases and school newsletters; we never publish a child's photo without asking again for that specific use. You can change these in the Family Portal. SII keeps no student directory and never gives your contact details to other families; in a live class, others see your child's first name and last initial.
A second guardian's access begins once our staff have verified their authority. Court orders that restrict a person's access are honored across the portal, messages, and emails.
Accreditation and credit
SII is not yet accredited. We are pursuing accreditation. If your child later transfers to another school, that school decides how to place your child and which SII records or credits it accepts. Some colleges, scholarship programs, and athletic associations may ask for more evidence, such as test scores. By signing, you confirm you have read this.
The Full-Time Online School serves grades 1 to 8 in our founding year. High school students in the Islamic Studies Program: whether your child's school gives credit for SII courses is that school's decision.
Tuition, refunds, and withdrawal
Tuition, payment plans, and discounts are set out on Tuition and Assistance and in our Tuition Billing Policy. There is no interest and there are no late fees. In our founding year, no full-year prepayment is taken. Refunds and withdrawal follow our Refunds and Withdrawal Policy. Your child's records go to their next school within 10 school days of your request, whatever balance is owed.
Conduct
Students, families, and staff follow our Safeguarding and Code of Conduct and Acceptable Use policies. Families may not record, photograph, or screenshot live classes. Serious or repeated breaches may lead to a change in how a student takes part, or to withdrawal; a person decides, after talking with you.
When a student turns 18
When a student turns 18, the rights over their records belong to the student. While the student remains enrolled, parents keep their access to the student's academic records, and we tell the student this in writing on their 18th birthday.
If we fall short
If we do not deliver the promised live minutes for your child in two school weeks in a row, tell us, or we will tell you first: every day our software compares the minutes of the live classes actually held for your child with the promise, and when your child falls short two weeks running, it tells you and our Principal the day after the second week ends. We will make up the time with extra live sessions or give a tuition credit, as you prefer; the credit terms are being set with our attorney. If SII cancels your child's program or changes it in a major way, you receive a full refund.
Changes and legal terms
We do not change these terms during a school year in a way that reduces what we promise your child. Any other change is announced to enrolled families at least 30 days before it takes effect, and we keep earlier versions. The governing law and how disputes are resolved will be completed with our attorney before enrollment opens.
