Policies
Acceptable Use
Our Learning Hub and Family Portal are a school building made of software. These are the rules for using them, written so a student can read them too.
Draft for attorney review; effective when enrollment opens.
Accounts and passwords
- Every account belongs to one person. Do not share your password or let anyone else sign in as you.
- Children under 13 have a school username, not an email address. A parent resets their password from the Family Portal.
- Children in grades 1 and 2 learn in a locked "Learn with" view inside a parent's portal. Only the parent's PIN opens the rest of the portal.
- Staff sign in only through our own sign-in page, with a code from an authenticator app, and every staff session must pass that code step before it can open anything beyond the sign-in pages. Office sessions sign out after 30 minutes without activity.
- If you think someone else has used your account, tell us at once at office@
southern .islamic institute .org
Live classes
- Join only through the Learning Hub or the Family Portal, with your own link. Never share a class link.
- Students and families may not record, photograph, or screenshot live classes, classmates, or teachers, because every class shows other people's children.
- From grade 5, cameras are optional in mixed classes. Take part by voice, by writing, and by your work.
- Keep your background plain and your space quiet, and dress as you would for a classroom.
Outside apps and links
- Teachers never ask students to create accounts on outside websites or apps.
- Lessons link only to websites our office has reviewed for how they treat children's information.
- Students may not move a class conversation to another app, game, or social network, and staff will never ask them to.
Writing and speaking online
- Write and speak with adab: kindly, honestly, and respectfully.
- No bullying, threats, mockery, or unkind comments about anyone's family, background, madhhab, or ability.
- Share only what is right for school. Do not post personal details, such as your address or phone number, or anyone else's.
- Do not upload images of people. Students cannot set profile photos; the platform shows initials.
- Do not try to get around the platform's rules, open pages meant for others, or break anything.
Messages are records
Messages on our platform are kept as school records for 3 years and can be reviewed by our safeguarding team. Messages can be hidden when they break these rules, but they are not deleted early, and every hidden message records who hid it and why. If a message worries you, tell your teacher, press "Talk to someone," or write to our safeguarding team.
Devices and safety at home
- A shared room where an adult can see and hear the class is safer than a closed bedroom.
- If anything online makes a student feel unsafe, they can press "Talk to someone" or tell a parent or teacher.
- Keep your device's software up to date, and do not install programs a stranger asks you to.
If rules are broken
A teacher talks with the student and the family first. The aim is to fix the problem and help the student do better. More serious or repeated breaches, such as recording a class or bullying, are decided by the Principal after hearing from the family, and may lead to limits on how the student takes part. A person always decides. See our Safeguarding and Code of Conduct.
