Level 1: Foundations of Family in Islam

For adults 18 and older

Outline only

Before discussing logistics, rulings, or personal choices, it’s essential to begin with the why behind family in Islam. This level lays the spiritual and conceptual groundwork for family planning by exploring how Islam defines and honors the family unit. Students will reflect on the purpose of marriage, the responsibility of raising children, and the emotional and spiritual readiness required to build a family with ihsan (excellence).

Rather than jumping straight into modern questions about timing or contraception, Level 1 encourages learners to first understand what it means to plan a family with intention (niyyah), trust in Allah (tawakkul), and a commitment to mutual responsibility. This foundational stage prepares the heart, mind, and soul for the deeper discussions ahead by anchoring everything in the beauty and balance of the Islamic worldview.

This level sets the stage by exploring the role and significance of family in Islam. It addresses the purpose of marriage and children, the spiritual dimensions of starting a family, and lays the groundwork for ethical and intentional decision-making. It emphasizes that family planning begins with niyyah (intention), knowledge, and understanding one’s responsibilities as a future parent or spouse.

Planned: 5 modules, 25 units, 75 lesson titles. 25 units are held for review.

Outline: the course plan comes from our founder's curriculum, and lessons are being written and reviewed. Module, unit, and lesson titles appear here once scholars have reviewed a level.
