Level 4 of the Islamic History Curriculum explores The Umayyad Dynasty & Early Islamic Governance. This period marks the first hereditary rule in Islamic history, shaping the political, military, and cultural landscape of the Muslim world. The Umayyads expanded Islamic rule into North Africa, Spain, Central Asia, and the Indian Subcontinent, creating one of the largest empires in history.
Students will gain insight into the governance of the Umayyads, their achievements, controversies, and the challenges they faced, including internal uprisings, sectarian divisions, and political rivalries. This level will conclude with the downfall of the Umayyad Dynasty and the rise of the Abbasid Caliphate.
