Level 1 of the Islamic History Curriculum explores Pre-Islamic Arabia and the Birth of Islam. Before Islam, Arabia was a land of tribalism, idol worship, and social inequalities. This course will examine the historical, cultural, and political landscape of the Arabian Peninsula before the advent of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and how his arrival transformed society forever.
Students will gain insight into the Jahiliyyah (Age of Ignorance), the lineage of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, early monotheistic influences, and the socio-political environment that shaped the world in which Islam was revealed. We will conclude with the first revelation, the earliest converts, and the initial challenges faced by the Prophet ﷺ and his followers.
What students will learn
- Understand the cultural, economic, and political structure of pre-Islamic Arabia.
- Recognize the significance of the Arabian tribal system and its impact on society.
- Examine the religious landscape, including idol worship and monotheistic remnants.
- Analyze the events surrounding the birth and early life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
- Explore the first revelation, the reaction of the Quraysh, and the initial struggles of Islam’s first followers.
