Adab (Etiquette)

Level 1: The Essence of Adab in Islam

Outline only

Before we learn how to behave with others, we must first understand what adab truly means. In Islam, adab is more than “manners”: it is the way we express faith through our presence, our actions, and our interactions. It is the spiritual beauty (jamal) that transforms ordinary moments into worship, and it begins with a deep respect: for Allah, for others, for the self, and for creation.

This level introduces students to the foundations and philosophy of adab, where it originates in the Qur’an and Sunnah, how it differs from cultural habits or Western etiquette, and why it is essential for anyone who seeks nearness to Allah. Students will begin to reflect on their habits, cultivate self-awareness, and practice intentionality in how they walk, speak, sit, eat, and listen.

By the end of this level, students will see that adab is not a list of rules, but a way of life that brings beauty, harmony, and reverence into everything they do.

Planned: 6 modules, 30 units, 90 lesson titles.

Outline: the course plan comes from our founder's curriculum, and lessons are being written and reviewed. Module, unit, and lesson titles appear here once scholars have reviewed a level.
